Memory Care

MyTapestry   |   memory support

Every life is a Tapestry.

Every individual is a unique combination of experiences, beliefs, preferences, routines and rhythms of daily life woven together to create a one-of-a-kind life. At The Arlington, we understand that living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of age-related cognitive impairment changes many things; but it doesn’t change the value of every individual.

MyTapestry has been designed to take advantage of the latest discoveries about how to help people with various forms of memory loss thrive and feel secure in their environment. This begins with discovery. Dedicated, trained professionals take the time to learn about each individual resident by talking with family members to gain an understanding of his or her unique history, preferences and rhythms of daily life. This knowledge enables the MyTapestry team to meet each resident where they are, creating a customized daily routine and a living environment that supports his or her highest level of independence.

Features of the MyTapestry program include:

• Private studio apartments with walk-in showers

• Dedicated professionals with expertise and specific training in dementia services

• Licensed and certified nursing professionals 24 hours-per-day

• Medication administration

• Availability of additional services tailored for each individual

• Ability to work with outside organizations to provide additional personalized options

• Individual climate control

• Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet

Yoga and Meditation

Yoga is proven to improve flexibility, build muscle strength, promotes good posture, slows cartilage and joint breakdown, protects your spine, increases blood flow, boosts immunity, drops reduces pressure, regulates adrenal glands, helps one focus, improves balance, releases tension in limbs, helps one sleep deeper, boosts immune system functionality, gives lungs room to breathe, helps reduce IBS and other digestive problems, eases pain, keeps allergies and viruses at bay, and strengthens connective tissue, among many other benefits. Meditation echoes many of the same benefits, such as reducing stress, controlling pain, improving sleep and decreasing blood pressure. Additionally, meditation can help control anxiety, lengthen attention span, and can generate kindness. Staff members are encouraged to participate alongside our residents in an effort to promote well-being across our neighborhood.

Dining in Style

This monthly event is a culinary experience! Our chefs create dynamic menus for the evening to create a fine dining, restaurant experience, complimented with strolling musicians, floral centerpieces, and upgraded china. The event is thoroughly enjoyed by our residents, families and guests each month.  Many of our couples regard this as, “date night.”

Songs By Heart

Songs By Heart

The Arlington is a program partner with Songs By Heart Foundation which connects Memory Care neighbors with the pure joy of music.

The Songs by Heart Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for persons facing age related memory issues through the power of music. Using interactive live vocal music they engage the intellectual, physical, social, spiritual and emotional dimensions of well being.

Professionally trained musicians lead interactive sing along programs five days a week in memory care facilities. These programs focus on popular songs of the 1930s-60s. The key is to get the residents singing songs that they like and remember from their youth - be it Frank Sinatra, the Andrews Sisters, Cole Porter, or Disney! Our program’s goal is to help people with age related memory loss engage in a way that brings them joy, and often, an enhanced ability to reconnect with language.

Experts say that Music has the power to reach in and unlock the joy and create the emotional release that these people may not otherwise be able to express.

A resident family member recently shared: “We're so grateful for the wonderful programs the Songs by Heart Foundation provides and it further proves the theory that music transcends dementia and goes straight to the heart and soul. It is truly the best therapy.”
